Julia Hoggatt grew up training at Lake Area Dance Center in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. As a dancer, she trained in all styles, but found her passion for contemporary early on. She was frequently awarded for her unique style of contemporary at regional and national competitions, as well as earning top placements and scholarships across the Midwest. In addition to her studio dancing, Julia spent several summers attending week-long dance workshops at the Iowa Ballet Academy, and took multiple opportunities to work with renowned teachers at conventions and other local classes. Julia also began assistant teaching younger competition teams during this time, where her passion for teaching first started.
After high school, Julia moved to Duluth to attend the University of Minnesota, Duluth. While there, she trained in modern and ballet through UMD's dance program. She also began her teaching career across local studios, where her contemporary and open choreography have earned her numerous choreography awards at the regional and national level. Along with her passion for creating contemporary choreography, she also enjoys building strong technical foundations in her dancers by teaching various types of technique and strengthening classes.
Julia's main goal as a teacher is to provide high quality technical training, while allowing her students to find the beauty and emotional connection to movement. She is excited to share her contemporary style with the dancers at Imperium Dance Company
